Closeboard fencing is typically made using vertical feather-edge boards fixed to horizontal arris rails, all supported by either timber or concrete fence posts, depending on the job and your preference. Gravel boards can also be added at the base to help protect the timber from direct ground contact and improve the overall lifespan of the fence. Each part of the fence is designed to add stability, helping it stay straight for as long as possible and withstand whatever the weather throws at it.

How We Install Closeboard Fencing
A solid closeboard fence starts with the right setup. If you’ve never had closeboard fencing installed before, here’s a quick look at what our installation process looks like.
Installing Posts for a Solid Base
We start by setting the fence posts out correctly to suit the line of the boundary and the conditions on site. If needed, we can also take reference photos to document boundary positions in case of any boundary disputes.
Attaching Horizontal Arris Rails
Once the posts are in place, the horizontal arris rails are fitted securely to create the structure that supports the rest of the fencing. While many fencing installers will position their rails 3 meters apart, at CC Fencing, we install posts with no more than 2.4 meters of space between them. These smaller gaps result in a much stronger fence.
Attaching the Feather-Edge Boards
The feather-edge boards are then fixed carefully in place, creating the solid run of fencing that gives closeboard its strength, privacy, and traditional appearance. CC Fencing installers use only rust-repellant galvanised nails and a hammer, never nail guns.
Adding Gravel Boards Below
If needed, we can also install gravel boards at the base to help protect timber closeboard fencing from ground contact and support the long-term life of the fence.
